Comparing Commercial and Domestic Roofing

Over the last few years, roofing has changed a lot and in some very big ways. There are so many options new homeowners can choose from in regards to sustainability, release value, durability and weather resistance. As we slowly creep into the next year, here are the roofing trends with 2016/17!

Green Building/Eco Friendly Materials

There is an ever growing demand for more people choosing to use green building materials, and more options and ideas are becoming available every day. Sustainable homes and roofs will become more stylish and alternatives such as cedar shake, recycled rubber and lighter toned pallets will become more and more popular.

Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt has always been a number one go to for many customers and it’s not disappearing anytime soon. It’s becoming more popular due to the various choices now available in different energy efficient options. It has been reported that there has been an 80% increase for it during the early months of 2016 as they are now laced with cooling granules to make them more environmentally friendly.

Solar Panels

Solar panels have made a big impact within the industry over the last few years and it will only continue to grow. By choosing a new type of solar panel called photovoltaic, homeowners can now use thermal energy from the sun and convert it into electricity to reduce their footprint on the electrical grid and minimise carbon emissions.

Cool Roofing

“Cool roofs” are making homes more comfortable and efficient during the hot, summer months and it is essentially any roofing option that minimises heat in and around the house. Examples such as lighter tones (blue, white and grey) paired with reflective coatings (acrylic, latex and silicone) and layered over a darker colour, cuts energy consumption and lowers the demand for roof maintance costs because this lasts longer than ordinary roofs.
